Mounted Rifles & WW1 DisplayThe Mounted riflemen of Australia and New Zealand rarely rode their horses directly into the enemy lines in a frontal charge. For the A.L.H. and the N.Z.M.R. the most successful technique was for the horsemen to move quickly about the intended battlefield then dismount and attack on foot as infantryman. Bess, a local horse, was never wounded. Bess was one of only 4 horses that returned to NZ after the war This exhibition is a permanent display Contact us for more information. |
